Linkin Park's Chester Bennington has joined the Stone Temple Pilots as their new lead singer. Scott Weiland, STP's founding lead-singer, was fired from the band just a short time ago.
Chester surprisingly joined STP this weekend for the band's performance at KROQ's Weenie Roast. There is a video up on YouTube that shows some of the songs the band did. Chester sounds really good with STP.
In addition to the weekend performance, STP has released a new track, titled "Out Of Time," featuring Chester on vocals. And it is damn good. It's nice to hear Chester providing vocals for heavy rock again, since Linkin Park hasn't done that in years, unfortunately.
Take a listen to "Out Of Time" below:

Last week, I got back into listening to Green Day's album 21st Century Breakdown and ever since then, I cannot get enough of the track "Restless Heart Syndrome." I ended up making a re-mix of the track, which I will post soon, but I also had the strong urge to cover it. And I have done just done. Luckily, I have access to the instrumental of the song so I just stuck my vocals on top of it.
Take a listen below and let me know what you think over on Twitter.

I just came across this fantastic cover of Carly Rae Jepsen's hit "Call Me Maybe" while browsing SoundCloud. This guy, Tim van Doorn, did a really good job changing up the song and making it more interesting than the original version. Take a listen below!

I just stumbled across this pretty interesting website that shows the distance between Earth, the Moon, and Mars in terms of pixels. It relates miles to pixels in space. Pretty cool concept and helps get your mind wrapped around how far Mars is away from Earth.
Go check out the website: DistanceToMars.com
Something random for your Wednesday. Enjoy.

Several days ago, Kmart released a new TV commercial touting their "Ship to Home" ordering system. It is the best commercial I have seen in a long time. It is titled "Ship My Pants." Just watch it.

Instead of studying for an exam yesterday afternoon, I decided to spend my time recording a new cover. Best use of my time? Maybe not, but I had a lot of fun doing it, and I learned a few things.
I decided to cover the song "Rite of Spring" by Angels & Airwaves. This song is a very personal one for Tom Delonge, the band's singer/songwriter. Many dub the track as "The Tom Delonge Story," and rightfully so. Tom writes about his harsh life growing up, from his struggles in school to the struggles with his parent's marriage. He then transitions into what his life has become since then and all the successes he's had. Tom makes it clear that he doesn't regret any of it with the chorus line "If I had a chance for another try, I wouldn't change a thing, it's made me all of who I am inside."
The song is a very serious and sad one, but very inspiring at the same time. To me, it's inspirational due to the chorus line I mentioned above and due to this second verse line: "From rock and roll, to love and cash / It's all success if it's what you need / Do what you like and do it honestly." That last part is something I've had stuck in my head ever since I first heard the song a few years ago.
Take a listen to my cover below and be sure to check out the original track as well.

This summer, Apple will release the first beta of iOS 7 to developers, their next installment of their operating system for iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches. The interesting note about iOS 7 is that it is spearheaded by Jony Ive, rather than Scott Forstall, former head of iOS, who was fired several months ago from Apple. Ive has been Apple's head of industrial design since 1997 but has never publicly worked on anything software related. As scary as that sounds, based on Ive's taste in design the last several years, I'm very excited to see how iOS changes with iOS 7.
Some changes I would like to see include visual design, settings toggles for WiFi, Cellular Data, and Bluetooth, and physical layout design change.
Scott Forstall was into what's called "skeuomorphism," which is the idea of taking some physical device, pattern, or material and translating into a design for software. To illustrate this, if you have an iPhone/iPad/iPod touch, take it out and go into the Notes app. See how it looks like an actual notepad? That's skeuomorphism at its best (or worst). I hope Ive manages to get rid of this design style and change it to something new and modern. Based on the latest version of Apple's Podcast app, I think he will. Could the Podcast app be our first taste of Ive's style? I hope so, because it looks really good.
One thing I actually like about Android are the settings toggles in the notification center. Swipe your finger down from the top and you have quick access to toggle on/off WiFi, Cellular Data, Bluetooth, change screen brightness and a mess of other things. iOS needs to have this implemented into Notification Center or the Multitasking Dock is some form. It's a drag going into settings and toggling things individually from there. This will certainly boost productivity and would not require to get out of the app you're currently using.
Finally, I would like to see a change up in home screen design. "Live" app icons or widgets would be a very useful feature to have. For example, the Weather app icon. As much as I wish it were always sunny and 73 degrees, that's rarely the case. Why not have it display the current conditions? iOS currently has it implemented into Notification Center, but why not have it there on the home screen? As far as the overall design of the home screen, I don't have many ideas about, I would just like something different and fresh.
Am I bored with iOS? Getting there, especially with home much interaction I have with Android phones at work. Would I ever switch to an Android phone? Absolutely not, but I do like some of the visual design and the simplicity with it.
The world will know come this summer. I can't wait.

While browsing through the Keto section of Reddit this morning, I came across a new article posted on News.com.au. The article goes through all the popular nutrition myths and busts them; such as:
The most interesting part about the article are the sections on sugar and carbohydrates. As you may or may not know, I am currently on a carb-restricting diet named "Keto," so I take great interest in this. The article actually alines with the foundation of Keto and states that lots of carbs and/or sugar is bad, high-fat isn't bad for you.
If you look specifically at #9, I have experienced first-hand all those results. I actually had my blood pressure checked as recently as yesterday and it was a "perfect" 120/80.... it used to be 135/85 before I started my diet.
I won't talk much more about the article because you should just go read it! Click here to do so over on News.com.au.
- Everyone should be eating grains
- Low-fat foods are good for you
- High-fat foods will make you fat
- And many more...

Today's song of the day is an acoustic remix of "Breathe Into Me" by the band RED.
RED is a hard-rock Christian band, a genre I like quite a bit. Which, if you know, is very ironic due to my strong dislike of organized religion.
The original version of this song is off the band's 2006 album End of Silence, which is great. This acoustic remix is from their latest album Release the Panic.

What is this garbage?
I wanted a place to write down my thoughts and share them with the world. Not only thoughts, but anything I find interesting or things I'm working on at the moment.
Follow me, maybe?
If you are a tweeter and are looking for someone interesting to follow, I wouldn't be the guy. I tweet about random things all throughout the day. Anything from music, technology, sports and politics. You name it.
But if you'd like to follow me, you can do so @chinanderm
